MINNIE ATKINSON SEAMAN

Minnie, the daughter of Mary and Robert Atkinson, was born in 1863 and died in 1948. She married Daniel J. Seamon (Seaman) on August 26, 1888, at the residence of her parents in Iron Springs. According to the 1900 census she had 3 children; Minnie J., Daniel J. and Fredrick H.(Hess Seaman) The 1880 census lists Minnie and brother Ellery with parents, Robert and Mary Atkinson in Yavapai county, Arizona. The 1910 census lists Minnie, Sandy, Hessie and Caroline in her household. She is listed as "divorced", head of household" so she may have taken in other children.

In 1880 Minnie was a candidate for clerkship in the legislation; perhaps the first woman in this position. When her son Dan was Superintendent of the Arizona Pioneers' Home she acted as "matron" of the Pioneer's Home. Minnie's mother, Mary McLay Atkinson and her daughter-in-law Eileen Bennett, are also represented in the Sharlot Hall Museum Territorial Women's Rose Garden.
