Note: Steven Carlson, curator of the E. A. Smith Archive and maintains the website on Arizona artist Effie A. Smith maintains that 'some aspects of the information on Mrs. Smith are wrong and her birth year is 1869.' Mr. Carlson also states that 'there was a typo made
in records at the Pioneers Home.'
In checking further her Arizona Death Certificate, the Mt. View Cemetery records and her headstone must be incorrect also, as well as the Arizona Pioneer Home because they all give 1868 as her birth year.
All but the 1900 census records give an approximate year of birth based on the age given at the time of the census.
