His Obituary reads:
"Melvin R. Covington, 81, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away Monday, December 4, 2006. Born in Prescott, AZ and a Scottsdale native. His family came to the valley in 1910. He and his grandfather planted the Arcadia citrus groves. Mel was a graduate of the first class of North Phoenix High and attended Phoenix College and Creighton University in Nebraska. He was proud to serve in the Army Air Corp during WWII. Mel was also the owner of Scottsdale Plumbing for 60 years. He was a founding member of the Scottsdale JC's and instrumental in building the Scottsdale Boys and Girls club and many other Scottsdale buildings. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and most recently gardening. He was also a long time member of the Elks Club and the American Legion. Mel volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader and was involved with the Little League as coach and President. Mel was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and is survived by his son Michael and his son Dylan; daughter Linda Barnett and her children Nicole and Steven; and son Ed and his children Kelly Covington and Emily Hein and great-granddaughter Brianna Hein. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Alyce. A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9 at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 9300 E. Shea Blvd. Scottsdale. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the graveside service at the American Legion Post 44, 7145 E. 2nd St., Scottsdale, AZ 85251. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 44. Arrangements by Messinger Indian School Mortuary."

"Mary Alyce Covington, 78, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away May 5, 2006. Born and raised in Penalosa, KS, she married Mel Covington in 1948 and moved to Scottsdale. She was a member of the Hope Community Church and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Survivors include her husband Mel; daughter Linda Barnett; sons Charles and Michael; grandchildren Nichole, Steven, Emily, Kelly and Dylan; great-granddaughter Brianna; sister Ethel Geesling; and nephews Byron and Bruce Milburn. A graveside service will be held at 9:00a.m. Saturday, May 13 at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 9300 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, AZ. A celebration of life will immediately follow at Hope Community Church, 7901 E. Sweetwater Ave., Scottsdale, AZ 85260. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Church or Hospice of Arizona, 2222 W. Northern Ave. #A100, Phoenix, AZ 85021. Arrangements by Messinger Indian School Mortuary."
