She met and married her first husband Leonard Owings in Oklahoma and they moved to Arizona, residing in Parker, Yuma and Phoenix before moving to Lakeside. Leonard preceded her in death in the late 70s.
Dessie later married Lynn Allen a longtime friend, together she and Lynn shared over 25 years.
