Kirby was born Sidney Allen Pittman on January 12, 1928, in Prescott, Nevada County, AR to John & Nettie (Stivers) Pittman. He would later move to Hollywood where he wrote, sang, and recorded his music eventually becoming a recording producer. In the early 1970's he moved to Mesa, AZ where he raised his family. He is the father of Jeffrey Hess, Marc Allan, Eric Allan (deceased), Monique Allan, and Patric Allan, grandfather to Natosha Allan, Daniella Stilchen, and Rachel Stilchen, and great-grandfather to Aurora LaFond.
Kirby's headstone was designed by his son, Marc Allan.
