My father was born Erwin Roy Beitelschies in Adrian, MI. The family changed its surname to his mother's maiden name ca. 1957. Erwin trained as a B-17 pilot, but the World War 2 ended before he flew any combat missions. His first assignment was to be to Okinawa. Through a change of heart, he entered seminary training and returned to active duty as a chaplain. He served in Korea. He served as Base Chaplain on Guam during the Vietnam War. He retired at Williams AFB in 1970.
