Homesteaded in Santa Cruz County (arriving on the train from Pennsylvania) in the early 1900s with daughters Pauline and Helen; he was the first postmaster of Canille (Canelo), followed by his wife. He was also the first Forest Service ranger in Santa Cruz County; they lived on their ranch at Canelo until his death in 1947; other family living on the Ranch were Virginia Young Smith, Sig Rodgers Young, Helen Rodgers Faurot; she then moved to Tucson. Originally buried in the Old Tucson Cemetery and moved to Black Oak when it was closed.
