Services for University of Arizona meteorologist Dr.James R. Hastings, 50, who died in his home in Tucson, were held Monday. Burial was in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Dr. Hastings, who died of complications from recent open heart surgery, was a native Arizonan born in Hayden and was its first mayor when it incorporated in 1956.
He was the Son of James Franklin and Bertha Louisa(CAMP) HASTINGS.
He had been a permanent UofA faculty member since 1962, but previously taught history and was a graduate assistant in government at the university. He received his bachelor's degree from the UofA in 1951 and his doctorate in 1963, also from the UofA.
He was co-author of the book: "The Changing Mile Revisited: "An Ecological Study of Vegetation Change with Time in the Lower Mile of an Arid and Semiarid Region"
He was a World War II veteran and served overseas in India from 1942 to 1945. Enlisted in the Army as a Private on 9 March 1942.
Survivors include his brother, Weldon W., and a sister out of state.
