Willmirth was born June 18, 1905 in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Daniel Skousen and Melvina Clay Greer. She was the eighth child of nine born into a large loving family. She was named after her mother's sister. In 1912 when Willmirth was 7 years old there was a mass exodus from Mexico because of the Mexican Revolution. Willmirth's family left the first time fleeing up to Provo, Utah for safety. The second time they left with many of their friends across the border to El Paso, Texas. Willmirth's family had several encounters with Pancho Villa and his army during this unstable time.

Willmirth graduated from The Juarez Stake Academy in 1924. In 1926 at the age of 21 she was called to serve as a missionary in the Western States Mission headquartered in Denver, Colorado. She also served in South Dakota. After her mission Willmirth taught third and fourth grade in Mexico.

On June 13, 1934 Willmirth married Leonard David Whetten in the Mesa Arizona Temple. On January 11, 1936 Willmirth was widowed and left with four daughters to raise. Eventually she worked at the Arizona State University Library from where she retired.

Willmirth died in Mesa, Maricopa, Arizona September 4, 1991 and buried September 9, 1991 in the City of Mesa Cemetary.
